9TH-12TH GRADE PROGRAMS – SPRING/FALL SEMESTERS

Our 9th-12th Grade Programs are for riders currently in high school. We have specialty teams for every interest and goal. Each team has different requirements, expectations, and goals. Click the programs below for more information about each.

TEAM OPTIONS:

U19

Description: The U19 team is for high school-aged riders looking to improve their riding experience through shared explorative training. At practice, the group splits into 2-3 sub-groups based on ability level and their personal goals. Most practices will begin and end at the Rec Center, utilizing various in-town trails.

Goals: The overall goals of the team are to build fitness and bike handling skills while developing each rider’s individual cycling goals. Some riders will have racing aspirations, but others will have other cycling ambitions. Building great friendships and lifelong connections is also a key part of our high school programs!

Requirements: There are no prerequisites for this team, but riders should have some experience in mountain biking and be willing to try tackling more difficult trails.

(*NEW!*) GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN

Description: This is the evolution of our U19 Girls team! With the same overall goals as the U19 squad, this group is for female-identifying riders who are looking to build fundamental bike skills and make connections with fellow riders.

Goals: The overall goals of the team are to build fitness and bike handling skills while developing each rider’s individual cycling goals. Building great friendships and lifelong connections is also a key part of our high school programs!

Requirements: There are no prerequisites for this team, riders of all abilities are welcome to join.

TRAILBLAZERS

Description: The Trailblazers is the high school progression from Ramblers. This team is all about exploration and bikepacking! In this group, we will teach the intricacies of bikepacking along with some more advanced survival skills. Each practice will focus on mountain bike skills as well as skills to be self-sufficient on an overnight bikepacking trip. The season will culminate in an overnight bikepacking trip as a team. Read our latest Updates post about the Explorers programs!

Goals: Riders will build their skills to be self-sufficient on an overnight bikepacking trip, including packing their gear on their bike, finding water, starting fires, setting up shelter, and preparing food.

Requirements: There are no prerequisites for this group, but riders should have some experience in mountain biking and be willing to tackle an overnight bikepacking trip.

FLYERS

Description: The Flyers is an advanced high school-aged group focused on gravity riding and jumping. Riders can expect a low-pressure, fun, and exciting practice. This is an advanced group, please pay attention to the team requirements.

Goals: The overall goals of this team are to enhance a rider’s skills in a gravity setting, focusing on jumps and technical descending. Drills and skills are prioritized over riding lots of miles.

Requirements: Riders should have graduated from the Senders or Sendas programs, or should be recommended by a coach before joining this team.

EnDEVO

Description: EnDevo is a high school-aged group focused on training for enduro and downhill races. Riders should expect longer miles at a high tempo over technical terrain. Coupled with U19/HS League, this is an excellent program for preparing for your racing goals. This is an advanced group, please pay attention to the team requirements.

Goals: Riders will set personal racing goals and learn how to work towards them with their teammates. The team will have the opportunity to travel together to the US Gravity National Championships to culminate the season.

Requirements: Riders must have participated in at least one season of U19 or Flyers, and have a coach recommendation before joining this team.

DGRT and Devo 3000

These are Durango Devo’s sponsored race teams! Riders must apply to join these teams. Riders receive enhanced coaching, training, race, and travel support, and learn the ropes of what it takes to race at a high level. Contact us to apply to join these teams.

Season Format

Each Spring and Fall semester runs for 8 weeks, followed by a 9th week to make up for any weather-related cancellations. The core curriculum program (U19) meets twice per weeks, and other programs meet once per week. Practices are 2 hours. Practice locations are TBD, and will be announced by the coach before practice each week. 9th-12th Grade teams also have the option to attend an out-of-town trip each season!

Mix and Match!

Feel free to mix and match all our different highschool offerings. For example, you could register for one day of Flyers and and U19! Programs are scheduled so that your “core curriculum” is on Tues/Thurs, and “extracurriculars” like Flyers on are Mon/Weds. Contact Rob Nichols at robnichols@durangodevo.com for more details about combining/mixing/matching our different options.
