With bike season upon us, it’s time to dust off the backpacks and do a gear check so your shredder is ready to roll!

First things first: at the start of each season, look over your child’s bike and helmet to make sure they fit and are in good condition. A properly-sized bike in working order and a well-fitting helmet with no cracks or damage is absolutely critical to your child’s safety and enjoyment. If you’re at all uncertain, roll by one of Devo’s favorite local bike shops or email your coach. We’re here to help!

BIKE CHECK

  • Your brakes are working properly (good stopping power, brake pads have life, and no rubbing or squeaking)
  • The chain and gears are clean and lubed
  • Your shifting is smooth
  • Your tires hold air
  • Your bike is comfortable and the right size for your body

If you need help with bike maintenance or fitting, roll by one of these wonderful local bike shops that support Devo:

  • 2nd Avenue Sports
  • Pedal the Peaks
  • Purgatory Sports
  • Durango Cyclery
  • San Juan Cycles
  • Mountain Bike Specialists

GEAR CHECK

Read on for a full rundown of what we recommend for riders of every age group to bring to each Devo practice.

No need to worry if your child doesn’t know how to use all the tools in their bag. Part of our program involves promoting self-sufficiency and teaching young riders how to work on their bikes when the opportunity naturally arises. Don’t be surprised if your elementary schooler comes home from practice one day bragging about learning to use their tire levers!
