Devo Film Festival: Tips for Filmmaking!

At the Devo Film Fest, we LOVE seeing local riders create rad local films! However, we know editing a film can be intimidating and if your computer’s built-in editing software is not up to the task of meeting your vision, it can make or break your project. However, there are some great free editing software programs out there to make your project shine. Here are the best of them:

DeVinci Resolve

Clip Champ

Kden Live

This short film from a previous DDFF uses visual effects, audio effects, and music all purchased online for less than $100. Depending on the editing software you are using, there are included libraries of sounds you can access, so be sure to check! If you are willing to spend a bit to make your film standout, there are dozens of sources for effects, music, and stock footage, and some are free! Be sure to download the license if you purchase assets, and credit the original creator in your credits if required.

Here’s where to look:

Sound Bible: audio effects

Free Sound: audio effects and music

Pond5: audio and visual effects, music, stock footage

Actionvfx: visual effects, stock footage

Videezy: visual effects, stock footage

Film Crux: audio and visual effects

Free Sound Effects: audio effects

The Sound Archive: audio effects (mostly pop culture clips from movies)
