To plan, register, prepare, and ride with Devo. Devo is an age-based, community-centered mountain bike development program dedicated to sharing the love of riding mountain bikes.
Our 3rd-5th Grade programs are for kids currently enrolled in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade as of the first day of practice. Click below for more information and registration!
Kids must ride a pedal bike independently and must be confidently pedaling on single-track dirt trails with elevation change. Riders should show interest in and be willing to attempt more difficult terrain. Bikes with hand brakes and gears are required in all 3rd-5th grade groups. Wheel size must be 24 inches or bigger.
The main goals of our 3rd-5th-grade programs are to build team camaraderie and to start to develop and hone MTB-specific skills! Each team will focus on unique goals (see team options below).
Parents should not attend practices. We believe riders learn and grow most when they can attend practice without their parents!
Each Spring and Fall semester runs for 8 weeks, followed by a 9th week to make up for any weather-related cancellations. Each team practices 1 day per week. Practices are 2 hours. Practices will meet at a different trailhead/location each week (See Practice Location Schedule). You can register for multiple teams to practice multiple days per week.
TEAM OPTIONS: We offer 5 different team options for riders to choose from based on interest, motivation, and experience level. Many of our 3rd-5th Grade teammates understand their “riding style” – everyone has their own unique ways of having fun on bikes. Make sure to read below to discover which group is right for you! Contact Aubrey at aubrey@durangodevo.com with any questions.
All girls groups are for riders identifying as female. All other groups are co-ed.
Intermediate/Advanced style trail rides. Participants must have their own gear in excellent condition, have ridden singletrack blue/black trails for at least one full season (spring-fall), and be able to climb all but the final ascent of Telegraph Trail and descend down Sent It (formerly Anasazi – riding the majority of the descent) in Horse Gulch. (We use these trails as benchmarks for skills and fitness – don’t worry, riders will sample advanced trails all over town!) For advanced riders new to town who aren’t familiar with these trails, please reach out to us first, BEFORE registering. This group is great for kids interested in cross-country and enduro-style riding.
New to town or just getting into mountain biking? This is your group! Come ride with Devo, learn about mountain biking as a team on singletrack trails around town, and get a coach recommendation on which team you’d have the most fun in for future seasons! Coaches will teach everything from trail etiquette to basic bike maintenance to the stoke of being outside on two wheels with your friends!
This is an intermediate/advanced group for riders interested in learning advanced skills, including jumps and drops. Participants must have their own gear in excellent condition. Riders must have ridden singletrack blue/black trails for at least one full season (spring-fall) and be able to confidently ride Star Wars and the entire mid-loop on Twin Buttes, with interest in learning to ride the advanced features on those trails. (We use these trails as benchmarks for skills and fitness – don’t worry, riders will sample advanced trails all over town!) For advanced riders new to town who aren’t familiar with these trails, please reach out to us first, BEFORE registering. This group is great for kids wanting to learn to hit jumps and drops.
This is a beginner/Intermediate group. Participants must have their own gear in good working order, have ridden on dirt trails for at least one full season, and be able to pedal up Horse Gulch Road (doesn’t have to be fast, just up the whole way). These rides are more leisurely than advanced groups in that the team likes to stop for lots of water breaks and snack time. This group is great for kids who know how to ride their bikes, but aren’t interested in advanced-style rides.
*Register for 3rd-5th Grade programs below for the Fall ’24 Season. Registration opens at 9:00am on Saturday, June 22nd.*
