2ND-5TH GRADE JUNIOR EXPLORERS

2ND-5TH GRADE JUNIOR EXPLORERS – SPRING/FALL SEMESTERS

The Junior Explorers is a specialty group for kids currently enrolled in 2nd-5th grade who are interested in learning to bikepack! Read our latest Updates post about the Explorers programs!

Requirements

Kids must ride a pedal bike independently and must be confidently pedaling on single-track dirt trails with some elevation change. Riders should show interest in more difficult terrain. Bikes with hand brakes (both front AND rear independently) and gears are required. Wheel size must be 20 inches or bigger.

Goals

This group’s focus will be a bit less on bike-skills and more on using the bike as a tool for exploration. The curriculum is developed to teach a progression of skills that create outdoorsy kids who love to be outside and are stewards for the land while on their bikes! Contact Aubrey at aubrey@durangodevo.com with questions.

Parent Participation

Parents should not attend practices. At this age, we believe riders learn and grow most when they can attend practice without their parents!

Team Format

Each Spring and Fall semester runs for 8 weeks, followed by a 9th week to make up for any weather-related cancellations. Each team practices 1 day per week. Practices are 2 hours. Practices will meet at a different trailhead/location each week (See Practice Location Schedule). We allow 10 riders with 2 coaches per team. You can register for multiple teams to practice multiple days per week. View our course catalogs for scheduling details.
