Summer Camps

2017 Junior Devo Summer Camps—Registration to open April 11th!

 

Devo Polo Camp (10–18 years). June 5-8th (Monday-Thursday), 10:30am – 2pm. Limit 16 riders. $100

Bike Polo is a blast! This camp is for ages 10-18 to explore the sport of Bike Polo. Practices include learning rules of the game, tactics, bike handing and ball handling drills, live games and building a mallet and will be coached by local experts and Polo professionals. You do not have to be a current Devo rider to participate. All levels welcome!  Practices are at Buckley Park. 
Limit to 16 campers (4 teams of 4).Hurry and secure your spot as these camps are filling up fast!!

 

U14 Summer Schedule:

Description: DEVO U14 is for middle school age kids interested in continuing to build skills and begin to pursue racing:  Racing is not mandatory. Promoting the sport in a fun environment and learning skills is still the overall goal of U14, but some specific training is involved. The summer season will be a 2 week “training camp” which will have one travel fun trip and possible one travel race.  The group will be co-ed and limited to 20 riders. Each day will focus on a skill and a trail.  We will incorporate polo, bike maintenance, short tracks, time trails, and lots of skills!

The schedule is as follows: Monday’sTuesday’s and Friday’s  8am-12pm.
Wednesday’s are a rest day
Thursday’s will be our long days 9am-3pm.
Monday June 12th we will meet at the rec. After that we will be meeting at different places/trailheads.
**Important Note:  Kids will need to have a COSAR card**

Ages: Current Middle Schoolers (6th, 7th and 8th grade) Must have a season of U14 under the belt.
Costs: $450 (does not include food, race fees or camping costs).

 

Preschool:  June 19th-22nd

 

Cycling Science:

Like biking? Like science? We have found your dream camp! Week-long camp combining mountain bike exploration in the mornings, and bike-related hands-on science at the Power House each afternoon! In this lab portion, explore topics including anatomy and physiology, nutrition, bike engineering and simple machines, physics of biking, and more. One thing’s for sure: your kids will sleep well after each day of this camp! Registration opens April 11th at 7pm.

June 26th– 30th Cycling Science #1 Kindergarten-2nd Grade—$250

July 10th – 14th Cycling Science #2  3rd Grade-5th Grade—$250

Purgatory Summer camps:

Devo coaches will lead rides and serve as your kid’s camp counselor all day. Groups: Kids will be placed in groups based upon ability (beg/int/adv.  Camp activities include; special guest appearances, gravity skill sessions, bike fit, trail building, Registration fee includes: 5:1 coaching both in the Purgatory Bike Park and on the mountain utilizing the chairlift (camp 9-3, pick up 8:30 in town and 8:45 in Hermosa and drop off at 3:30 at Hermosa and 3:45 in town, Devo coaches will be on the buses with the kids. More information to come.  Registration opens April 11th at 7pm.

New this year for two of the camps we will be partnering with Trails 2000, our local non profit that plans, builds and maintains trails in and around Durango on City, County, BLM, Forest Service and private lands, we will introduce elements of trail design into the camps. Trails 2000 TrailKids Educator, Ziggy Lanman, will assist coach all week and infiltrate her vast trail education skills into this camp. Your child will learn the biology, geology, and art behind trails, and the role they play into our trail experiences. The 2 camps that will have this element are July 24th -28th and August 7th-11th.
